My cat, Molly, has feline herpes but I think there must be an underlying infection. When she sneezes, she slings streams of mucous from her nose. I give her Viralys lysine supplement 2X a day but still having the problem. What next?

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Molly! If the nasal discharge is thick, yellow or green then she likely does have a secondary bacterial infection. If that is the case she should be seen by your Vet to see if antibiotics are warranted. Feline Herpes can be a frustrating thing for cat owners and their cats. It can be a chronic infection or come and go with stress. There are many options to manage it but nothing cures it and not every medication combination works for every cat. During an outbreak oral anti-virals can be used (and as pulse therapy), cerenia saline drops can be used off label, L-lysine can help (500 mg twice daily), and occasional antibiotics as pulse therapy. https://www.petcoach.co/article/sneezing-and-feline-upper-respiratory-disease/ I wish Molly the best!
