My dog cries when alone. How to help with separation anxiety?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 7 months and 8 days old | 45 lbs

What can we do to help my dog get use to being left alone? She has seperation anxiety where she will cry, back and is distructive.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is not that uncommon and there is hope as there are a few things you can do which may help with this. Dogs that develop this behavior will usually benefit from exercise which will usually help with the extra energy and in general will make them happier. You could consider taking her to the dog park regularly or taking her for long walks on a daily basis. Also, you could also consider getting her toys that she likes particularly. Ultimately, if these strategies do not work for her you could consider medications for anxiety to be given on an as needed basis such as Trazadone which your veterinarian could prescribe.
