My dog's dew claw is red and painful. Should I see a vet or treat at home?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 65 lbs

My dogs right dew claw is always red and the groomers can’t trim his nails on that foot because he freaks out only with that paw , should I take him to the vet in my area and have it looked at or is there anything I can do at home to help it not get so irritated ?

This appears to be a subungual (under the nail bed) infection, but I would also want to rule out a tumor, so it's best to have him seen by a veterinarian to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment. It's good to keep it clean and keep it covered for now. You can keep it clean by flushing the foot with cool water for 10 minutes a day. You can also do a footbath with epsom salts for 15 minutes once a day to help with the swelling. I hope that helps and Tug gets better soon.
