My 11-year-old chihuahua is shaking. Should I be concerned now?

My chihuahua is about 11 years old. Yesterday I noticed she occasionally would shake a little for short periods, as if she was kinda cold. Today it seems to be a little more apparent, but still not bad. She seems fine otherwise (behavior/appetite/toileting). Should I be concerned?

Minnie could be shaking because she's cold or it could be a sign of pain. Toy breeds like chihuahuas can also be notorious for shaking due to anxiety or nervousness. I would keep an eye on her for now. If this isn't a usual behavior for her and it continues or increases over the next day or two, I would take her into the vet for a health check. Shaking and/or trembling can be a sign of anxiety or pain. I would recommend evaluating the environment Sissy is in and see if there is anything new or unusual that could be causing her stress/anxiety. If everything is normal then I would be concerned that Sissy is painful/uncomfortable for some reason. If this behavior continues for more than a day or so or Sissy stops wanting to eat or drink, then you should probably have her checked out by your veterinarian. I hope this helps. Why do Chihuahuas shake?
Not all Chihuahuas shake, and since shaking chronically and excessively can be a sign of a medical issue, any shaking in your Chihuahua should be discussed with your veterinarian. It may be a sign of pain, especially spinal pain or abdominal pain. If there are no medical issues, your Chihuahua may be shaking because he is cold, or because he is a bit nervous or scared. Many Chihuahuas need clothes, especially in cold climates. Limit loud noises and introduce your Chihuahua slowly to new people and situations in order to build his confidence. Why does my 10 month Chihuahua shake every morning?
There could be many reasons on why dogs shake. It can be nerves, cold, pain, etc. If Paquito is not exhibiting any signs of pain, I would question if there is something that is making him anxious in your home or he may be cold. If you are unsure if he is in pain I would recommend a physical examination with your veterinarian. To see if it is nerves you can try (although may not always work) a thundershirt. my chiwawa keeps shaking everyday, just wondering if this would be health issue ?
Yes, shaking in dogs is usually a sign of pain. I recommend a veterinary exam to see if there is a reason Buddie is shaking. Chihuahuas can have back problems, luxating patellas and other orthopedic issues that may be causing discomfort. Your veterinarian will check his legs and back and may recommend an X-ray. I would worry that the shaking could be a sign of pain - sometimes neck, back or abdominal pain can cause symptoms like this. Shaking can also be a sign of a fever. I’d recommend seeing your veterinarian for an exam. I doubt the Seresto collar is related.

My 13 yr old Labrador is shaking, like chills but constantly. Please help!
There could be a couple of reasons why Elliot is shaking constantly. These things include pain, being cold, injury, fever, nausea, or a serious illness. I'm not sure if she is showing any other signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, limping, or lethargy. If she is only shaking but is otherwise behaving normally, eating normally, drinking normally, and moving normally, it's fine to wait until Monday to have her seen a vet for this problem. Keep her quiet and warm, and rest her as much as possible. Should she start showing other signs such as the ones I mentioned above or any other concerning ones, then I would take her into a vet right away for evaluation and treatment. I hope this helps!

Poor Lily! It sounds like she could be suffering from back/neck pain or muscle spasms. I would have your vet take a look at her as soon as possible. Your vet will be able to determine the cause of her pain or weird behavior and get her started on the proper meds if needed to help her feel better. I hope this helps!

My 7 or 8 yr old Chihuahua is acting odd. It started maybe two weeks ago? He starts to act scared, shakey, and stiff. It lasts a day then he wakes up the next morning perfectly fine. I don't know what's triggering this?
Any abrupt behavioral change is a good excuse to get him in to see your vet. He may be starting to develop a medical condition that should be investigated but it's so early that the only symptom he is displaying is this strange behavior. There may be something happening periodically that is making him uncomfortable of the feeling comes and goes, but either way, it should be looked into by your vet. Your vet will do a thorough exam, possibly some x-rays and/or bloodwork, as indicated. Based on these results your vet will have a better idea what is going on and be better able to advise you as to what action should be taken.

Hello my chihuahua has two bumps on her stomach and today she's been shaking and whimpering all day. She also won't eat and vomited earlier
Poor Mini! I see that she isn't spayed, and I would be very concerned that these two bumps around her nipples are mammary tumors. Dogs who are not spayed are prone to developing mammary tumors, and 50% of those tumors are malignant. They will be painful as well, causing her to not want to eat and possibly vomit. The best thing to do is have her seen by a vet as soon as possible. The vet will need to do biopsy of these bumps to diagnose if they are malignant or benign. Should they be malignant, they will need to be removed surgically, and her local lymph nodes will need to be checked to see if there has been localized spread of the cancer. Please take her into a vet.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Peanut. I recommend that he sees a veterinarian today. Small breed dogs are prone to neck and/or back pain which can be excruciatingly painful. He will be carefully examined to determine if this is the case or if he has another problem. Based on these results and any diagnostic testing, treatment recommendations can be made. In the meantime, do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!
