My French bulldog is wobbly, throwing up, and lethargic. What's wrong?

Poor Dva and poor you! It is concerning that she threw up six times and now she can't stand up with her back legs. The vomiting could be caused by eating something rotten, a GI illness, a foreign body, or pancreatitis. I see that she isn't spayed, and the vomiting could be caused by a pyometra, which is a life threatening infection of the uterus. Being unable to stand could be due to an injury or she could be very ill and unable to stand due to weakness. She really does have to see a vet now. If paying for a vet is an issue, you can see if your vet accepts payment plans, if there is a low cost clinic in your area, or you can apply for Care Credit online. There is also an organization called Red Rover that give grants for treatment of sick animals, and you can see if you qualify for one of their grants. Poor guy. Bruce is very ill and in need of medical care. His symptoms are suggestive of a viral infection (Parvovirus if he was not fully vaccinated), bacterial infection or undelrying organ malfunction (pancreas, kidneys, etc). He needs a proper exam and bloodwork analysis to a start and try to narrow down the possibilities and get a proper diagnosis. He also need supportive care treatment such as anti-nausea medicaiton, fluids, and anything else that will treat his specific condition. The vomiting you described sounds normal. Vomit only contains what is in the stomach at the time, so as the vomiting continues there will be less and less available, hence the color changes. First, I would look around the house and yard to see if there is anything that you can find that Cooper may have gotten into or eaten. Look carefully at plants, small things, destroyed things, or missing contents of a trash can. If you don't find anything, then I would remove all food for 12 hours, but encourage him to drink water or pedialyte. If the vomiting continues in a few hours, I would recommend that Cooper be evaluated by an emergency vet to see what could be going on. At the very least, he could get an anti-nausea shot that will help him get some rest tonight. If the vomiting starts again after he eats, if he has a poor appetite, or if he starts having diarrhea, the Cooper should get checked out by a vet tomorrow.

I recommend to have your pup examined by the veterinarian today. Continued vomiting is concerning for something like an intestinal blockage although many potential causes are possible. It’s best to play it safe and not wait this one out. Best of luck.

Shaking can be a sign of pain or it could be a neurological condition causing muscle spasms. At either rate this sounds serious for Frank and he needs and exam and perhaps even some blood tests to determine what is happening internally. I would definitely recommend taking him in to your vet asap to hopefully find out what exactly is going on so that he is treated properly for it. Unfortunately there is no way to know how best to treat him without more information on his condition.

I would discuss with the veterinarian the possibility of brachycephalic airway syndrome. This is a disorder of breeds such as French bulldogs which can result in regular vomiting and regurgitation due to unnatural pressures within their body, as they struggle to breathe through small nostrils and a long soft palette. I'm sorry bosco is so uncomfortable!! Frenchies are very prone to neck and back pain and this may be what is going on. Bringing him to the vet is absolutely the right thing to do. They will be able to see if he is indeed painful and get him the medication he needs to be more comfortable.

Hello and thank you for contacting Boop by Petco. If the blood results and x-rays were normal, it could be a problem with a nerve or with the spinal cord. It may be worth to rest Nacho for a few days (only short walks on a leash) and use painkillers. If after 3-4 days this treatment does not help, you should consider more advanced imaging of the spine, for example contrast x-ray, CT or MRI scan. French Bulldogs do suffer from spinal problems, like slipped disc, vertebral instability, vertebral body maldevelopment and more. Plane x-ray is not useful in diagnosis most of these problems, therefore the only sensible way to go is advance imaging.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I’m sorry to hear Lieo isn’t feeling well. I would recommend taking him to a vet right away to determine why he is sick. I would bring a fresh stool sample with you so the vet can check for microscopic parasites. There are many different types of parasites that can cause diarrhea and there is no one medication to treat them all. They may also want to test Lieo for parvovirus as this is common in young puppies and causes vomiting and diarrhea. Either way, Lieo needs medical treatment to prevent further fluid loss which will lead to dehydration. Once they have a cause they can get him medications to help him recover. I am so sorry to hear about Boo! I would recommend a trip to the vet given your description of vomiting numerous times in a short time frame combined with lethargy. Unfortunately with vomiting we are limited in our "at home" treatments and when they are vomiting so frequently it is really best to have them seen before they become too dehydrated. Your vet may recommend testing such as an x-ray to check for things like foreign objects and bloodwork to check for things like pancreatitis. They can give injectable medication to help stop the vomiting and fluids via an IV to help rehydrate Boo.
