My dog has diarrhea, won't eat food, but wants treats. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 52 lbs

My dog started vomiting last Thursday which cleared up by Friday evenings. However, she has diarrhea (runny liquidy stool) only once or twice a day. She doesn't really want her food, but she wants her treats (of course). She doesn't seem to be sleeping any more than normal. Just not eating like she uses to and liquidy movements. Should I be worried?

Dogs are scavengers so she may have gotten into something that upset her stomach. As long as she’s eating and acting normal she should recover without treatment. You can give boiled chicken and rice to settle her stomach and help firm up the stool. If the vomiting and diarrhea continue and she’s lethargic or not eating at all then please bring her in right away for an exam and treatment.
