My cat licked chocolate pudding cup sides. Is that amount safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 5 years and 4 months old | 14 lbs

I ate a chocolate pudding cup and left it on the table, and I came back to the cat picking up half the containers sides clean. Is that amount of chocolate a problem

There is the potential that it could be a problem depending on how much chocolate was in the pudding and how much Bear ingested. Typically pudding does not contain a lot of chocolate, so if he only licked the sides, he should be fine. You may see some GI upset in the form of vomiting or diarrhea, so if you do see that, I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Poor Olaf! The taste of the chocolate muffin may have made him feel ill, but if he didn't actually eat any of the muffin, he would not suffer any toxicity from it. I will give you a home remedy to see if that helps him feel better.
