A couple of weeks ago my rottweiler cross akita seemed to have a puntcher wound on his back. It healed but left a lump. Tonight he has chewed at it and it is now red raw and seems to be irritating him. What should we Do?

I would be concerned that there is an underlying abscess (a walled off infection) in the area of the puncture wound. This is a common occurance with bite wounds. I would recommend thoroughly cleaning the area and applying a warm compress to the area. Additionally, you will need to have Baxter seen by your veterinarian because he will likely need antibiotics. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
