My cat won't eat, has no energy, and isn't grooming. Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | 5 years and 10 months old

My cat: On Wednesday night and Thursday he didn’t eat any food at all (wet or dry) Friday I bought like squeezable liquid pouch treats to try that. He ate that and then later that night was the first time he attempted to eat some of his regular food. He urinated and had a bowel movement friday. Now on Saturday again he showed a little more interest in food and ate a little in the morning and a little at night. Again bowel and urine. He’s still has low energy today and isn’t Grooming himself?

I am sorry to hear that Trouble isn’t feeling well. Decreased appetite and lethargy can be symptoms in many different problems. Infections, kidney disease, liver disease, and trauma are just a few of the possible causes. If he isn’t back to normal tomorrow then I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. They may recommend lab work and possibly an X-ray to help determine the diagnosis and best treatment plan. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
