Is it safe to inject my cat's oral antibiotic if he refuses it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

I took a 4-year cat with Respiratory Tract infection to vet. I got 5ml Azithromycin Oral for 3 days. Cat is gagging it, so put rest in tinned food but won't eat. I can't get it down him. Although have injected for many years, vet now refuses to let me as rules tightened, but I have to medicate cat or he will die. Is it OK to inject oral antibiotic in a cat? I also have Bactim in fridge, but not sure if oral or injectable - CAN EITHER BE INJECTED without ill-effect IF ORAL?

Oral antibiotics can not be injected so please don't inject an antibiotic that was prescribed orally. There is an injectable antibiotic called Convenia that you could ask your vet about administering.
