My kitten bit a power cord and got shocked. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 10 lbs

My 6-7 month old kitten bit a power cord and got shocked, i assume he had a seizure right after due to a puddle of drool and a very small amount of blood. When i found him he was sitting up meowing/growling i now have him laying on some towels. Breathing is fast and sounds like he has mucus drainage, parts of his mouth are swelled up from the burns, he wont open his eyes but is responsive if you touch or move him. Im wondering what i can do for him untill morning

Hello, I am so sorry this happened. Electrocution causes edema or swelling and build of fluid in the lungs. As a result, pets experience difficulties breathing and need oxygen support, fluid therapy and pain medication if the tongue or oral cavity was burned. Often times, patients need support for at least 24-48 hours. Please don't wait. Take Snow to the nearest veterinary emergency hospital. Take every precaution not to stress Snow in transport.

There is not much you can do for him, try checking if he drinks or eat anything but yu need to take him to the vet ASAP in order to get him checked properly, electrocution can have severe impacts on the lungs as well.
