Why is my cat suddenly vocal after another cat passed? Is it grief?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Norwegian Forest Cat | Male | 16 lbs

We recently had to put down our bff Jack with hyperthyroidism. Since then, our other cat fettuccine has become much more vocal in his daily routine. Before his death, jack constantly meowed for food as a result of his illness. Fettuccine didn't really talk much. Fettuccine didn't really care to play or snuggle with jack, so I don't think he's crying because he misses him. Maybe he couldn't speak up with how loud Jack was? Do you think it could be something else? He's in very good health.

Poor Fettuccine! He could be more vocal because he misses Jack and it may take some time for him to adjust. You could try a Feliway diffuser or spray and see if that helps. If it continues than you could have your vet examine him and run lab-work to make sure there isn't a medical reason. http://www.feliway.com/us/#redirected
