My kittens have diarrhea & vomiting. Is their vet treatment enough?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 4 months and 6 days old | 4.4 lbs

Both my kittens have been suffering from quite severe diarrhoea for 5 days. I am waiting for tests results which will take another 4/5 days. They are both playing, eating and drinking, so looking ok. The vet has prescribed probiotics and a de-wormer in the meantime (after requesting it, we weren't given anything initially) but no antibiotics. One kitten has committed tonight as well though. Is the treatment prescribed enough for now? Should we just wait? I am worried!

Bacterial gastroenteritis is very rare in cats and usual associated with severe lethargy and weakness, so antibiotics are seldom effective . I suggest you continue with treatment and a dairy free, bland diet and continue to monitor for any further signs
