My cat still has lice after shampoo. How do I treat it effectively?

My cat has lice problem. I washed him twice tme with human lice shampoo as there is no pet shop but after after around 3 days I was lice again and then I also washed him with human lice shampoo but those lice come again after 3 days. So what can I do ?

I would recommend putting a topical flea medication such as Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution on Marmalate - all of these should be effective against lice as well. You should be able to get these from your vet, or order them online if you prefer - just make sure to get the correct size for your cat's weight.

Hello. What is the best fleas and lice treatment for cat on the market at the moment? I use Frontline Plus all the time but lately start to feel that it doesn't work like how it used to. I also saw a lot of negative reviews on Amazon saying the same
Lice are not terribly common in cats. I don't really feel like Frontline or fipronil products work very well anymore. I prefer products like Revolution or Bravecto. Seresto collars also offer great protection.

Hello. I am feeding food to a lot of stray cats in my neighborhood. I found that a couple of stray cats have lice problem. I want to help but they won't let me get close. Is there any medication that I can mix in the food to help kill lice on them? T
Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Unfortunately, there is nothing orally for cats that works to my knowledge. All the options for cats that I am aware of are topical. If you do decide to try a topical product PLEASE read the labels carefully as there are a few that are sold for dogs that are FATAL to cats. I like Advantage II from Bayer. It is over the counter, very effective, and lasts about 4 weeks - long enough to break the life cycle. Unfortunately, all the cats would need to be treated at the same time to prevent re-infestation. My cat has a lot of fleas and scratches/bites to the point where she is losing hair in some spots. I put Advantage II on her at the beginning of the month. Do you think it's safe to give her revolution or a flea collar? What would you recommend?
Advantage is generally a pretty effective flea medication for cats, so I'm surprised to hear that it hasn't been working well for Lily. If you want to try a different medication for her, I would suggest Revolution - I usually see good results with it for flea control, and it also prevents heartworms and intestinal parasites. As long as it's been at least two weeks since you applied the Advantage, it should be fine to go ahead and apply a dose of Revolution. I don't generally recommend flea collars for cats, as they tend not to work very well and can often be toxic for them. You may also want to use a flea spray such as Knock-Out to treat your house and yard, as it's possible that Lily is continuing to pick up fleas from the environment - this can make it much more difficult for any flea medication to work correctly.

In order to get rid of fleas, you will need a strong treatment program. Flea shampoos do not provide lasting protecting, nor are they very good. I will give you the flea treatment program I always recommend. First, I would give him Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home.

Billu could have lice but another concern would be ringworm (which humans can get!). To know if there are lice, you need to take him to the vet and they will look under the microscope to know if lice are present. Ringworm is diagnosed with a fungal culture. A product such as Revolution or Advantage Multi will usually kill mites. It will take 2-3 months to get rid of lice. Ringworm is harder to treat and typically involved medicated dips or topical ointments. You will also need an Elizabethan collar so that Billu does not lick off the product. It could take 2-4 months to get rid of ringworm pending which type of treatment is used. I would recommend to make an appointment at your vet to have him diagnosed and treated appropriately. In general, flea shampoos are not effective and only serve to cause skin irritation. Also use caution when choosing topical flea prevention from less known brands, as many have been shown to be quite unsafe and ineffective. If your cats have a flea infestation, I would recommend giving your cats oral Capstar because this will kill adult fleas within 30 minutes, but it will not provide ongoing flea prevention. Simultaneously, apply a weight-appropriate dose of a high quality topical product for flea prevention (such as Advantage or Revolution) to all cats in the household. Bathing should not be necessary. However, if you find an excessive amount of flea dirt and debris on your cats that you want to wash off, you can bathe them in a gentle baby shampoo or oatmeal based pet shampoo. Should you choose to bathe them, be sure to wait at least 2-3 days after applying any topical flea prevention. I hope this helps!

I treated my cats with advantage multi and they are itching all the time. I believe it is chewing lice. I applied advantage on 8/26/17. Do the have to suffer for 30 days?
Hi and thank you for your question on Boop by Petco! Unfortunately Advantage Multi is not labeled for use in cases of chewing lice. It is indicated for fleas, ear mites, heart worm prevention, hookworms and roundworms in cats which may explain why they are still itching. Frontline Plus is a good topical treatment that covers fleas, ticks, and chewing lice. In order not to overload their systems, I would wait until 9/26/2017 to apply the Frontline Plus if you believe it is chewing lice, although I would have a veterinarian diagnosis this first. They may be itching because they have a flea allergy and sometimes when the fleas die off after product administration this can cause itching. I would wait and see if the itching decreases in a few days with the advantage multi and if not, have them seen by a veterinarian. Best wishes to you and Neko!

Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment: 1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas.
