My dog is still in pain on tramadol. Can I give more or human meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Cocker Spaniel | Male | neutered | 35 lbs

My cocker spaniel has had a cancerous tumour removed from his gum. He has been given tramadol but has been crying a lot. He's eating & drinking but still seems in pain. How much tramadol can I give him or can I give him a 'human' painkiller?

Poor Oscar! I would call the vet who prescribed him the tramadol to see how much he can have. Unfortunately, it's illegal for the experts at Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to give the dose information for any drug without seeing the animal in person first. I would not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.
