What you're describing sounds like diarrhea with mucous, which we would call "large bowel" (as opposed to "small bowel") diarrhea. This terminology means that the problem is in the large intestine as opposed to the small intestine, and helps us as veterinarians sort of narrow down what the issue could be. Unfortunately, there are still quite a few causes of large bowel diarrhea (many people call this colitis), including parasites, irritable bowel syndrome inflammatory bowel disease, diet sensitivity, infection, and cancer. Hopefully Suzi has something simple, and it's quite reasonable at this point for your veterinarian to run a fecal sample to check for parasites and giardia, and perhaps prescribe an antibiotics such as metronidazole or a deworming agent, along with a probiotic and bland diet. In many cases, the problem resolves with this treatment, however if it does not or if it resolves temporarily and comes back, she will likely require additional diagnostics or perhaps an hypoallergenic food trial to get to the bottom of the problem.
