My dog's anal gland ruptured after vet visit. What should I do now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Alaskan Klee Kai | Female | spayed | 75 lbs

I took my dog to the vets today with a swollen anal gland. They have given me a weeks course of antibiotics for her and to go back Monday (today is Thursday) After coming home it has ruptured. Do I need to get her back before Monday?

If she is uncomfortable she may need extra pain relief but generally they are much more comfortable once the pressure has been reduced. Contact your vets office tomorrow and advise them of the changes you have seen
