My Aussie puppy threw up, is active, but won't eat. What's next?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 10 days old | 12 lbs

My 3-month-old Aussie Shepard threw up a fair amount last night, took him to the ER vet. Vet didn’t feel anything alarming in stomach. Tested for PARVO (negative), Cerenia injection, fluid therapy, had 22.7MG/TAB of Drontal in breakfast. Skipped on the x-ray to see how he did today. Has been active and drinking water, but he won’t eat. (mixed rice in food) Turned my back for a sec and there was liquid on floor not sure if pee or thrown up water. What steps do I take from here?

I would keep an eye on Dakota for now since you don't know if he peed or threw up water. Try offering him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. If he still won't eat that, or you discover that he is vomiting water, then I would bring him back into the vet right away.
