My male cat pees while sleeping. Is it marking or a health issue?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 3 months old

earlier, Beethoven, my 1 yr old male cat peed on his bed while he is sleeping. I noticed that whenever he is in my bed or about to sleep, his back twitches or sometimes his private area appears when I pet him. Last time after he took a warm bath, he peed again... I have another male cat, name is Eggy, he loves smelling or licking Beethoven's private area and when I look at Eggy's face, his mouth was open like he smelled something weird... they're both active and playful but i'm very worried tho

Since Beethoven is not neutered he may be marking when he is urinating. Eggy is probably reacting to Beethoven's hormones when he's sniffing with his mouth open. If Beethoven is leaking urine I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian as this would not be normal behavior. If he is spraying small amounts of urine this could be marking behavior and neutering could help.
