My golden retriever is suffering from diarrhea. Her poop is very runny, and it occurs about 4 times a day. She has been in good health for most of her life; the diarrhea has been going on and off for about a month now. Her diet is kibble with lamb and rice components. Poor pup, that is a long time to have diarrhea! It could be due to intestinal parasites, she could be suffering from dietary intolerance (which can develop later in life in dogs even after being on the same food), or she could have irritable bowel syndrome. The only way it can be treated correctly is to have the cause diagnosed. I would have her seen by the vet first thing in the morning, and bring along a sample of her feces with you. The vet can examine her feces, do a physical exam, blood tests, and urinalysis to diagnose the cause of her diarrhea. If the diarrhea is due to a dietary intolerance, the vet may suggest a food trial to see if that helps. The vet can determine the best treatment options for her based on the cause of the diarrhea.
