Can my puppy's ear infection cause eye problems like squinting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 12 days old

I have a 5month old mini daschund he has been acting strange. He had smelly ears so I was thinking ear infection.. my question is could an ear infection cause eye problems? He has been squinting both eyes or sometimes even holding them closed. Other than that he acts fine. He still plays, eats and drinks. Also still uses the bathroom fine. Periodically tho he will hide under the bed and act like he's not feeling well. Could this all be from his ears being infected or hurting?

Ear infections don't usually cause eye problems in dogs so he should be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. He could have an ear infection and an eye infection and your vet can prescribe medications to treat both conditions.
