My 8-week-old kitten is crying for food and won't eat. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My 8 week old kitten keeps crying for food. I feed it at 7am and 7pm but it starts to cry at about five pm. It wont eat his dry food and I even tried to warm it up. I also got it some kitten milk but he refuses to have it.

Small frequent meals are better for a kitten this young. Yuo can try other brands if he is refusing this cat food, but you can also try moistening it with a little water or low sodium chicken broth as well as warming it to see if some combination entices him to eat better for you. If you can, leave out dry food for him to nibble on all day long and give him a small amount of wet food in the morning and evening.

At 8 weeks old he should definitely be able to eat kitten food on his own. You may need to keep trying while decreasing the amount of formula you offer. If you’ve tried several times you may want to have Little Dallas examine by your vet to make sure there isn’t a medical reason he’s having trouble with solid food.
