My puppy has runny poop. Is it new food or a plant? What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Cattle Dog | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 16 days old | 10 lbs

Our 11 week old Australian Cattle Dog has been having runny poop since Friday night. He has been doing well with housebreaking but with this he has been unable to hold it. We did get a new bag of food but it is the same thing he's been eating (purina 1 puppy). He has also chewed on some leaves of what we now know is a geranium. Other than the runny poop, he is acting normal. He's hungry and active. No vomiting. Any input on what could be causing this and what we can do for him?

I recommend you feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice or a wet diet designed for intestinal upset for 72hours with an added probiotic such as fortiflora. Ensure he is up to date with deworming medications also and monitor for any other signs such as vomiting
