What to feed my dog with an upset stomach, gas, or painful bloating?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 16 years old | 15 lbs

Late last night my pug was experiencing bloating and gas a few hours after eating. Its a new food, which I'm assuming is the cause. This has happened before but she was crying in pain and passing a lot of gas (more than usual), which worried me. This morning, bloating/gas is gone but no bowel movements yet. She seems to be hungry but I'm afraid to feed her. What can I feed her that would be gentle on her tummy?

I would feed Ginger a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. This should help settle her stomach. After a couple of days on this diet, slowly add back in her normal diet.
