Why does my cat sound like she's snoring when awake and lying down?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 years and 1 month old | 7 lbs

My cat had a spay surgery almost 2 months ago not sure if that's relevant or not but she's been having breathing problems recently when she lays down it sounds like a snore but she's not sleeping. I'm worried.

It may be unrelated to her surgery, but this sounds like her respiratory function is compromised. This could be due to feline asthma, bacterial pneumonia or something similar. Respiratory distress in cats can be dangerous so I would bring her in to a veterinarian ASAP. They will likely do some chest x-rays and possibly some blood work to look for signs of infection. Good luck!
