Why is my dog's eye swollen on the outside? Infection or trauma?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 65 lbs

What could be wrong with my dogs eye? It's swollen like a cherry eye but it's on the outter side of the eye and not in by tear duct

It sounds like Mini may have an eye infection, or could have suffered trauma to her eye. I would have her seen by a vet right away. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any eye problem should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. The vet can diagnose if she does have an eye infection or suffered trauma to it, and can treat her for it.

Yes, I see what you mean, the eye does look like it's swollen. From the picture, it appears to be the conjunctiva that is swollen. This can be an indication of an eye infection or an injury to the eye. Any eye problem is considered an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take Rusty into a vet now to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!
