Why does my puppy have diarrhea, mucus, dandruff, and a potbelly?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Italian Greyhound | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 3 days old | 8.2 lbs

My puppy has mucus in her faeces, and has been sick once or twice. The mucus seems to have been easing up since giving her some ZooLac Propaste from Natural Instinct. But she is occasionally having on-off diarrhoea. She seems fine in herself, energetic, appetite is fine and is drinking plenty of water. Her coat is a little dandruffy though, I think she may have a potbelly but difficult to tell.

She could have an intestinal parasite causing her problem. Have your vet test a stool sample for parasites. She may need to be dewormed, depending on the results of the test. You could also feed a bland diet, boiled chicken and white rice, for a few days and see if that helps. Adding a probiotic, Fortiflora or Proviable, may also be beneficiail.
