Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Weimaraner | Female | spayed | 7 years and 8 months old | 65 lbs

My dog has had uncontrollable diarrhea for the past few days and blood has started to show in her stool. There is also half a tennis ball sized lump on her side on the muscle that has been there since before Christmas of 2016. it is not hot to the touch and doesn't seem to cause her any discomfort. This morning she also was not wanting to eat her food.

Poor Maggie! This diarrhea could be caused by hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, GI tumors, GI ulcers, intestinal parasites, toxic exposure, or severe GI disease. Given that she has had uncontrollable diarrhea for a few days now and there is blood in her stool, the time has passed to try a home remedy and she should see a vet right away. The vet can diagnose what is causing her diarrhea, and can treat her for it. As for the lump, it could be a cyst, an abscess, a lipoma, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lump should be examined by a vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. While being examined for her diarrhea, Maggie can have her lump examined and diagnosed as well.
