Losing a lot of weight in dogs can be caused by a medical illness such as diabetes, kidney disease, liver disease, and cancer among other causes. Some of these causes can also lead to a hard stomach and soft stools. It would be a good idea to have blood tests and a urinalysis done on your dog if that hasn't been done already. This will tell the vet how his organs are functioning, and can help narrow down a diagnosis for his current symptoms. I would have him seen by a vet tomorrow if possible.
