My dog's eye is red after a toy hit it. Will it heal on its own?

Judging by the picture it looks as if Pompeu has a burst blood vessel in his eye. This usually occurs from increased pressure in the eye or some type of injury or trauma. With time the blood will go away and there is nothing you need to do for the eye. If you notice any discharge, your dog is holding the eye closed, or if the eye seems swollen at all, then I would recommend you taking him into see the vet. It looks like there might be some blood in the fur around his eye, which could mean that he had trauma to the conjunctiva which might not require specific treatment if the bleeding has stopped. He does also seem to be squinting a little. A corneal abrasion is possible, or bleeding in the eye from direct trauma. A corneal abrasion or bleeding in front of the pupil would require treatment, so I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Cooper's eye. These two problems would not be obvious from a photo alone, but close examination with a light can reveal bleeding and a special staining procedure can help diagnose an abrasion. Hello. This looks like hyphema, the presence of blood in the anterior chamber of the eye. This can occur from anything like a simple trauma to the eye, to cancer, so treatment really depends on the cause. If there is any chance there was some trauma to the eye ( being hit with a ball could do this ), then treatment is nothing & the blood will reabsorb over time. If this is due to an infection or something more serious, then it may need to be treated. I am not sure why your veterinarians are unhelpful, perhaps you need to find someone else. If you suspect that there could have been a traumatic injury to the eye and it looks irritated, I definitely recommend that you have Dolly evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This could be secondary to a corneal laceration which needs to be treated as soon as possible. Good luck!

This is not going to cause any problem and will resolve with time in the next 2 weeks. If there are no other lesions in the eye or anywhere else I would not be worried. Normal monitoring for signs of discomfort like squinting and excessive discharge is needed but other course of action is necessary.

Without seeing your dog in person we cannot say for certain, but it is possible that this could be a subconjunctival hemorrage. It can be a result of hypertension (elevated blood pressure), trauma, coagulopathy (blood clotting disorder). Usually this goes away on its own eventually, but if he is acting uncomfortable then a vet visit it best. They can test your dog's blood pressure, and be sure there are no signs of a bleeding disorder, and give pain medication if needed to make him more comfortable.

Aww poor guy! It will likely resolve on its own over the next 24 hours. Rinse his eye thoroughly with tap water to make sure residual soap is gone. If it’s not resolved in 24 hours or if it starts to seem like it’s bothering him, take him to your vet. It’s possible there is enough irritation to cause an ulcer on his cornea. (Though not likely.) It looks like she got an injury to the cornea which probably happened a few days ago and the red spot is the cornea trying to heal itself. I don't think you need to take her to a veterinary ophthalmologist for this unless you want to. Your regular vet should be able to handle this problem.

You Pom may have bruised his eyeball. It is called sclera hemorrhage. I would suggest a veterinary exam to confirm it and I would suggest to test the eye for corneal scratches or damage.
