Does my kitten need wet food if she eats dry kibble and drinks water?

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | unspayed | 3 months and 13 days old | 3.5 lbs

I have a 3 1/2 month old Persian kitten that I have been feeding Purina kitten chow. Is it necessary for me to give her wet cat food also? She drinks water.

Great question! No, it's not necessary to give Suzy wet cat food as well, the dry kitten food will provide her will all the nutrition she needs. You can give her some as a treat occasionally, and make sure she has plenty of fresh water to drink. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Some cats have very definite preferences for how their food is prepared. Do not worry that Salem just does not like the moist food. I assume you are concerned about water intake, but as long as their is always fresh water available, she will get what she needs. Some cats really enjoy moving water, & this is an option to increase fluid intake. You can either let a faucet drip for a time, or purchase a pet water fountain. But keep feeding the Science Diet. This is an excellent choice for Salem. Take care.

Is it normal that she drinks alot of water she mainly eats dry food I try to make her eat wet food but she doesnt like it I thought of buying her the food toppers would that be enough protien in the food toppers and if she eats dry food too
Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rose. If she is eating a nutritionally balanced kitten food, it is ok that she only eats dry food. A proper food will be certified by AAFCO. Wet food will provide more moisture, but it sounds like she is drinking enough water. If you think her thirst is excessive, she should see her veterinarian as this can indicate a disease. However, it is rare in a kitten. I hope this information helps!

If your kitten is eating all wet food, he will get most of his water needs from the food. I would hold back on the steamed fish, only offering it as a treat, as more than that may upset the nutritional balance of the kitten food you're feeding. Also, if he is weaned, he does not need milk and may develop diarrhea if he gets too much. Again, a little taste, as long as there are no adverse effects is fine. Always make sure he has clean, fresh water available, but don't worry if you don't see him drink. To make sure he's getting enough water, you can mix some in with his wet food and/or offer him some low sodium chicken broth to drink. As long as he is healthy, happy and active, then you're doing the right thing.

Do cats NEED dry food? Or can they be fed wet food/meat all the time?
Cats don't need dry food if you are providing wet cat food. The reason dry food is best is that most cats graze. You can leave the dry food out. Also, it helps with their teeth. I would not add any meat or anything else into a cat's diet. Just wet and/or dry cat food. Or as in Alice's case kitten food. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Zuri can tolerate a dry food already without putting water or milk in. Based on her age, is it already ok for her or should we give jer wet food first?
At two months of age, Zuri is old enough to eat dry food on her own and there is no need to give her dry food with water or milk in it. You can give her wet food as part of her diet or as an occasional treat. I hope this helps :-)

Your kitten needs to be on a balanced kitten food, but it doesn't need to be canned food. Some cats don't like canned food. Treats however, if you are feeding these exclusively, are not a balanced diet. Choose something high-quality like Hills or Royal Canin kitten diet. Good luck!

If they both drink a lot of water, then you can feed them dry food and mix in wet food occasionally as well as give it with treats. I only feed my cats dry food, and they are fine. I hope this helps!

My 3 weeks old kitten, with no mother only eats wet food, how much plain water should I feed him per day?
Offer clean, fresh water at all times but she may not drink very much since she is getting water in the canned food. In general, a healthy animal will naturally consume as much water as its body needs on it's own. Do try to encourage the kitten to eat dry food as well. I recommend to get kitten formula, canned kitten food and dry (kibble kitten food). Set out a bowl of the plain dry kibble, a bowl of the canned kitten food and bowl of kibbled soaked in formula. You may need to smear the canned food and the soaked kibble around his mouth or even place a few small pieces in his mouth. Most kittens will begin eating this way. Gradually reduce the amount of soaked kibbled over the next 3 weeks. The food I recommend most is called Royal Canin Baby Cat. Cats do not have to eat canned, or wet food, as long as they have access to a high-quality dry cat kibble. Some cats do not care for canned food, and have individual food preferences, just like people do.

Hello, i have a 7 week old kitten. How much is she supposed to eat? How do i get her to drink water??
Feed her wet (canned) kitten food 4 times a day. let her eat as much as she likes. She is still very young and normally should still be with mama and her siblings. Offer her kitten milk as well as water. She will get a lot of the moisture eating the wet food, however eventually she will start drinking water. Normally mama would teach her to drink water when it is time. Stick a finger in the bowl when she is in front of the bowl and wet her mouth. She should understand soon. Do not put the water next to her food. Cats do not like to drink next to the food. She will need lots of TLC, and you will need to play with her a lot (paper balls , string with a feather on it, etc)
