My puppy has parvo and is barely eating. Is she responding to treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 7 days old | 19.842 lbs

My puppy was diagnosed with parvo 4 days ago and initial symptom appeared 6 days ago. She's getting ringer lactate through IV and other meds in every 24 hrs. She's home and she's drinking water. She recently started getting active and responding. But she's only eating a little bit. I'm not forcing her bt she's barely eating. She only ate like 5 biscuits and 2 tsp curd. Is this ok? And is she responding to the treatment and fighting the virus??

Hello there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I am sorry to hear that Sweety has been diagnosed with Parvo. If she is eating and drinking water these are good signs that she is fighting the infection. She most likely will not take in her normal full meal but as long as she is eating some food on her own this is a good sign. If her body is winning the battle, her food intake should gradually increase. I would not force feed her too much and make her vomit, but rather offer her several small portions throughout the day that would equate to her normal full meal, just split up to make it easier to digest. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
