Why is my dog losing weight, bloated, with diarrhea, and breathing difficulty?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My dog has been acting really strange lately. We thought she was pregnant, but now I think it could be something really bad. She's lost a lot of weight, not eating, redish brown slimy diarrhea, very bloated looking abdomen, extreme weakness, depressed acting, moves from one spot in our house to another but so slow like she could collapse at any moment, and other times she acts as if she can't move at all, and shes acting as if she is having an extremely hard time breathing.

Poor Cloie! I can see that her stomach is very distended and her ribs are showing. The other signs you are describing are also very concerning. This can be caused by severe infection with intestinal parasites, organ failure and enlargement, internal bleeding, and possibly even a pyometra (infection of the uterus). I recommend having Cloie seen by a vet immediately, as she may need supportive care and stabilization. They can also perform bloodwork, x-rays, and an ultrasound to determine exactly what is going on. There are emergency clinics open in most towns and cities 24 hours/day. I hope all is well and that Cloie starts feeling better soon!
