Why is my puppy's eye oozing white discharge in the morning?

my puppy's left eye is oozing white matter, especially in the morning. Should I be concerned? Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9 months and 24 days old | 19 lbs

If he is holding the eye closed and it swollen or cloudy looking, the I would be concerned and he needs to be seen immediately. This can be a sign of a corneal ulcer or abrasion or other foreign body or trauma to the eye. If he is acting normal and alert, with no changes to the eye otherwise, then you can flush the eye with saline eye drops to minimize the discharge. If it continues after a few days of this, then he should be seen to see if there is an infection causing the discharge.
