My dog is limping badly after chasing a raccoon. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 5 years and 2 months old | 79 lbs

My lab-pit mix was chasing a raccoon this morning and I'm not sure what happened but he's limping pretty badly and I'm not sure what to do? There's no wound as far as I can see, I'm just worried, he's been limping all day.

Poor Wally! From what you are describing, Wally may have fractured a bone, sprained a joint, or had some muscle trauma. I recommend bringing him in to see his vet, who can perform x-rays to rule out a fracture. They can also place a splint and prescribe pain medications to keep Wally comfortable. I hope this helps and that Wally feels better soon!
