My puppy threw up. What symptoms mean I should take her to the vet?

Please, do not offer her anything to eat or drink till 11pm and then try and give her small amount of water. If she drinks it and keeps it down, you can offer her small amount of bland food (for example cooked piece of chicken). If she eats it, you should offer her more bland food and water in the morning. However, if she continues to vomit or passes liquid diarrhea, you should take her to your local emergency service tonight. Vomiting in such a young puppy is usually related to gastrointestinal infection, worms, food indiscretion, feeding errors.

Hello. I am so sorry that Cleo has been vomiting. Vomiting can be caused by dietary indiscretion ( getting into the garbage ), a bacterial infection, an intestinal blockage from ingesting something, or a virus like Parvo. If she is eating, then feeding small amounts of a bland diet made up of boiled chicken & plain white rice might correct her upset. But if she refuses food &/or has diarrhea, then she really needs to be seen by a veterinarian. A puppy this young can become dehydrated in as little as a day & that will be very dangerous to her overall health. I hope she is doing better soon & thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Vomiting and diarrhea have many causes including intestinal worms, inflammation, infection, dietary problems (including dietary indiscretion or eating things pets are not supposed to eat, food sensitivities/allergies), ingestion of foreign bodies or exposure to toxins, bacterial overgrowth in the gut, problems in the stomach, intestines, or even problems outside of the intestinal tract/stomach including pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, metabolic disease (diabetes,etc), endocrine diseases (thyroid or other hormone problems), etc. Usually, in puppies, we worry about intestinal parasites, infection (parvo/coronavirus), foreign body ingestion or dietary indiscretion. A thorough history and physical exam with resultant diagnostics such as fecal tests, blood tests, imaging studies such as x-rays/ultrasound can be done to try to determine what is going on. Yes, I would take Coco into the vet. It's concerning that he's been vomiting for over 24 hours now, and he could be suffering from a severe GI illness, may have parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated, or could have eaten something rotten. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Eve! I would with hold water and ice chips for 4 hours. If she still vomits when that is stopped or when you resume the ice chips then she should see a Vet today or first thing in the morning. Puppies of Eve's age can get dehydrated quickly if she isn't holding anything down. If she stops vomiting continue doing small amounts of water and ice chips. Try not to feed her for 8-10 hours after the last vomit. Feed a bland diet if boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. Again if the vomiting resumes with feeding she should be seen. Causes of vomiting are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, foreign body, food allergy/intolerance, new food/treat/table food. Hello, and thanks for using Boop by Petco. The licking of other dogs' private parts is a gross habit, but probably not the cause of the vomiting. Causes of vomiting in a puppy can include dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection (including parvo virus if not completely vaccinated), among a few others. If the vomiting lasts longer than 12-24 hours, or if Prince develops other symptoms, such as diarrhea, lethargy, abdominal pain, etc he should see a vet as soon as possible. I would only offer small meals of Prince's normal puppy food, or small pieces of boiled chicken breast in this period. If he isn't interested in food, it may be a sign that he is very nauseous and he should get checked out by a vet. I hope he starts feeling better soon!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Zia. You can see as a side effect some vomiting, and while protracted vomiting is a concern, throwing up a little bit isn't too bad. If you are giving her a new food, then I'm wondering if that caused the vomiting today. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 6 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. It sounds like Princess may have eaten something naughty (trash, toilet paper, paper plate, sock, toy stuffing, other) that decided to come back up. The fact that she has shown no signs today is promising. If she has eaten and kept it down, you are likely in the clear. Caveat: Do watch her closely for the next 2-3 days because if a smaller piece of whatever it was did get through and gets lodged in the intestine, you'll see lots more vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, etc. If this happens, it's time to see the vet. Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! Your puppy has very vague symptoms of vomiting which can mean she has an upset stomach. I believe I see milk in the bowl you have in the picture there. If that is the case I would stop giving that right away. Domino is more than old enough not to still be getting puppy milk. If she continues to vomit after stopping the milk, then it's best to take her to your vet for a full examination and possible testing to determine why she is vomiting so that we know how to best help her. Also I would recommend bathing her in Dawn dish detergent to strip all the fleas off her for now. Make sure not to get any in her eyes and follow up with an oatmeal based or aloe based shampoo and conditioner to prevent her skin from getting too dry. She is old enough for Revolution topical flea and heartworm preventative from your local vet, so I would recommend getting her hat to protect her from the fleas here moving forward.
