My dog is vomiting and pooping blood. Is diet related to pancreatitis?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rat Terrier | Female | spayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 8.8 lbs

My dog has been throwing up and pooping blood. She never got into anything and the get recently said it might be a problem with her pancreas. So she told me to put her on a gastrointestinal low fat food. What is your opinion?

Poor Robin! I can see that her stool has some frank good in it. This can be caused by inflammatory bowel disease, ulcers, chronic foreign bodies, as well as pancreatitis. Intestinal parasites and viruses such as parvovirus can cause this as well. A change in diet may help, but I recommend discussing ruling out the conditions above with your veterinarian. I hope all is well with Robin and am happy to answer any other questions you may have!
