Is once-a-day Augmentin enough for a stray cat's deep wound?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 9 months old

Stray cat has months old wound (about two inches in diameter) on his left upper back/shoulder. Flesh coloured, doesn't seem yellow/pussy, but deep, scary. Did not heal with Caricef 7days. Then hewent missing for a week. Now cleaning it with Pyodine daily. Been told to give him Augmentin. He shows up daily, but only once a day. Is it ok if I give him Augmentin once a day? He won't make it without medication; this is a last ditch effort. He can't be taken to vet; no help for animals in this area.

It's not going to hurt him to give Augmentin once a day, but it's just going to be slower to help. I would be concerned that this cat has some type of immunosuppressive disease, such as feline AIDs or feline leukemia, that's making it difficult for him to heal. If you can get any vet to help you there is an injectable antibiotic for animals called Convenia; one injection lasts for 2 weeks. Perhaps someone could order it for you; that might be your best bet.
