Why is my puppy throwing up after eating and always wants to be warm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered

My boy puppy has been sounding like he's going to throw up but don't. Then right after he eats he will go throw it up. I have a electric heater sitting in the floor and he will go stand as close to it as he can even though my house is warm. What could be wrong with him?

Poor Phantom! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. Standing in front of the heater all the time could be an indication that he has a fever. There are many possible causes of vomiting and possible fever in puppies - he may have parvo, an upset stomach due to something he ate, an intestinal obstruction, a GI infection of some kind, or he may have ingested something toxic. Some of these problems are quite serious, so I would really recommend taking him to an emergency vet tonight if at all possible - this may be a life-threatening problem that can't wait until morning. The vet can do blood work or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.

He could have an infection, parasite, metabolic/endocrine disease, pancreatitis, obstruction, etc. If it continues than he should be examined by a vet to determine the exact cause. Your vet can run labwork and take x-rays, if needed, to help diagnose and the prescribe medications to help treat.
