My cat has uncontrollable watery diarrhea and seems in pain. Help!

My cat is having watery diharhea all over my house! I think it's uncontrollable. He was abused in his previous home i took him to the vets and they said he's fine it's his diet but his food hasn't been changed it's fine on for 3 months he's in pain I can tell and it's scaring me. He squints his eyes whilst raising his hind legs but squirms. Please help what's wrong with my cat. Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | 9 lbs

Poor Smokey! I'm not sure what kinds of tests were done when he was at the vet last time, but I would really recommend taking him back in or getting a second opinion as soon as you are able to, since I agree that something is definitely wrong. Some possible causes of chronic watery diarrhea like this would include intestinal parasites, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), chronic pancreatitis, a food allergy or intolerance, or a systemic illness such as hyperthyroidism. Testing that would be helpful to sort out the problem would include basic blood work, a fecal exam (ideally sent out to a reference lab to check for "less common" parasites that can't be detected on an in-clinic exam), and a GI blood panel to check for signs of IBD or pancreatitis. A food trial with a prescription GI diet or hypoallergenic diet may also be helpful.
