What causes sudden foggy, cloudy eyes in my 7-year-old dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 6 years and 9 months old | 20 lbs

Hello, I woke up this morning at 2 a.m. and my dog was fine. I woke up at 8 a.m. looked at my dog and her eyes were foggy and I couldn't see her pupils. I don't think she had a seizure last night, but this has never happened before. Also she is almost 7 years old.

Cloudy eyes are a sign of inflammation that can be seen secondary to infection, autoimmune disease, corneal degenerative disease or elevated pressure in the eye (glaucoma). You should have your pet evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
