Dog vomiting, loose stool, and not eating. Is it parasites or parvo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Okay I was told that if my dog is throwing up that he has parasitsm or parvovirus. She told me to keep monitoring him. He only threw up once today and once on Saturday. Also he moved his bowels Saturday night after he ate and last night after I gave him a piece of turkey. It was really loose. After that he hasn't went again. Not really eating anything I gave him a slice of bread and he ate that and he's been drinking his water. Nothing has change but his appetite and his bowel movement.

Vomiting has many cause other than parvovirus or intestinal parasites. You can submit a stool sample to your vet to diagnose intestinal parasites. A simple SNAP test can be done in the clinic to diagnose parvovirus. If he is vomiting, lethargic, not eating and has loose stool then he should be physically examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the underlying cause. Supportive care may be indicated and can include fluids (IV or SubQ), bland diet, anti emetics and anti diarrheals. Without knowing more information about your dog, it is difficult to give more detailed recommendations.

She could have parvo but she could also have a different virus or a parasite causing the diarrhea. Your vet can test her for parvo and parasites to determine the exact cause. Once diagnosed, your vet can determine the best way to treat.
