My puppy won't use pee pads. Should I hire a trainer or keep trying?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I cannot get my puppy to pee and poop on his pads. I have tried everything. Crate method, spray method, treats, etc and nothing seems to work. Should I consider paying a certified trainer? Or continue trying?

I'm sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble! In my experience, I do find that pad training tends to be much more difficult and confusing for the puppy vs. teaching him to go outside - so if this is possible for you, you might want to consider that instead. If you really want to stick with pad training, then yes - I would definitely recommend having a trainer come in and give you some hands-on guidance. He/she can take a look at your current setup and go over what you e been doing so far to help troubleshoot problems and get you on the right track. You can search for a qualified trainer in your area here: www.ccpdt.org
