Is it okay to give my cat different food brands like Nutro or Hills?

is it okay to mix up cats food? sometimes Nutro, sometimes Hills etc.

Great question! No, it is not recommended to mix up a cat's food. This mixing of food causes GI upset in the form of vomiting and diarrhea, and this is the reason why it should not be done. I would stick with one brand of food for Newbie. Good luck, I hope this helps!

As long as the diet he is eating us a balanced and complete diet appropriate for his age there is no reason to change it or offer variety unless he has a condition which may respond to specialist formulas such as kidney or skin disease. Variety tends to encourage picky eating so if he is doing well, continue with his preferred food

Yes, it is absolutely fine to feed your cats a mix of two foods! Purina ProPlan is a high quality diet and wheat gluten is not a cause for concern. If you decide to mix the two foods together, try to be consistent by always mixing them rather than switching back and forth. Sudden diet changes back and forth can cause vomiting and diarrhea in some cats.

Yes it is okay to switch back and forth between those two different pouches as long as she tolerates it. If she starts having loose stool then I would just pick one and stick with it. Most cats can tolerate a small variety but some cannot. I hope this helps!

We just recently started giving my dog wet and dry food mixed together. We’re feeding him Natural Balance for both wet and dry food, but my question is, do both the wet food and the dry food have to be from the same brand? Or does that not matter?
The brand doesn't matter but is always a good practice to change food gradually. Abrupt changes to Leo's diet could result in gastrointestinal disturbances that lead to vomiting and/or diarrhea. Hello. That should be just fine. I doubt it will cause any GI upset. Any diet changes should be done slowly though (over about a week's time) just to minimize any ill effects that may occur. Hope that helps. Best wishes!

So it’s ok to mix your food but it’s not likely that the cats are getting any real benefits from any of the diets. The diets are formulated to be fed as the whole meal every time. The diets also contain only a certain amount of the active ingredients that are unique to the formula of the diet and if the pet does not eat the full amount, the total level ends up being below threshold and the pet receives no benefit from the active ingredients. A better option would be to pick one diet and stick with it. That way the pets will receive the full benefit from the diet depending on what is your greatest concern. Supplements can be added if you’re worried about hairballs or joint health. The urinary components are unique and you are not likely find any supplements for urinary health. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. If you still have any of the previous cat's food, you can try gradually introducing the new food. For example, start by feeding 25% new food and 75% old food for a few days. Then 50%/50% for a few days. Then feed 75% new food and 25% old food for a few days. Then feed just 100% of the new food. This will help to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset as a result of a diet change. If you do not have any more of the previous diet, that is OK. Just be aware that your cat may have some soft stools for several days during the initial diet change. I hope this is helpful!

Is it ok to feed a different brand of canned food than dry or should I stick to the same brand? Why or why not?
If your dog has a sensitive stomach I would stick with canned food from the same brand. The reason is that they use the same/similar ingredients and less likely to upset your dog's stomach. If your dog does NOT seem to have a sensitive stomach it doesn't really matter much. That would be my only criteria. I hope this helps. If you have more questions feel free to post again!
