My rabbit is pooping less and eating fewer pellets. Is this normal?

It is not unusual for rabbits to defecate several times throughout the day - they are hind gut fermenters and therefore eat almost constantly, so they produce a lot of poop! As long as the feces is not soft/liquid, frequent passing of fecal balls is normal. If you are ever concerned that Khargi is sick or acting abnormal, Khargi should be evaluated by your veterinarian! You can always bring a fecal sample with you to the vet to be evaluated for any parasites. I hope this is helpful!

As long as Blackberry is eating and drinking normally and not having diarrhea, you can continue to monitor his output. Adding additional hay to his diet may also help to make his stool a little more consistent.

It will take time for Julius to acclimate to his new cage. Provide plenty or toys and places for him to lay. Always have timothy hay or similar grasses available for him to eat. This should be what he eats most of the time. Rabbits will readily use a box if provided. Place a litterbox in the cage for him. Pick up droppings and place them in the box. For urine, use a tissue to soak it up then bury it in the litterbox. Be patient and be consistent.

Julius is a great name for a Rabbit. I am a little confused by your questions. it sounds like Julius was eating the old pellets well but when you tried to transition him to new pellets he stopped eating. When you offered him the old pellets he started eating again. If this is correct I would recommend slowly offering the new pellets while cutting back on the old pellets. You can even put them in the cage in different areas. I would not recommend mixing the pellets incase it makes Julius not eat at all. It is very important for rabbits to eat a large amount of roughage like timothy hay. I would recommend 90% roughage and only 10 % pellets. I hope that helps

Keep him warm and make sure he continues to eat. As long as he is eating and drinking, he will defecate eventually. Monitor for lethargy and loss of appetite. As a new pet, he should be examine by your veterinarian to confirm good health or to diagnose and treat any pre-existing conditions. He can eat timothy hay, oat hay and similar grasses as well as alfalfa. Offer commercial pellets in limited quantities to prevent obesity. Fresh greens and vegetables should be offered gradually and in small amounts initially to allow his system to acclimate to different foods.

Your bunny was probably just used to eating the lettuce and is adjusting to his new diet. You did the right thing by offering him only the pellets and hay. This is what is most beneficial to him. Since his stools are normal I would not worry at this point. Thank you for using Boop by Petco! The feces in the photo appears to be Stanley’s night feces. This is a normal type of feces for rabbits to make and is normally consumed directly from the anus, which is why most owners do not see it. Most rabbits eat this feces based on their vitamin needs and it can vary day to day. I recommend feeding Stanley a diet of rabbit pellets, hay, and occasional fresh fruits and veggies. I would recommend taking your rabbit to the veterinarian to be examined as soon as possible. A rabbit that is not eating is at risk for developing gastric stasis (where the GI tract shuts down) which can be life threatening. Hi, you might have to take a look at any changes in the diet,decreased amount in vegetables offered or eaten, hay, any changes in the brand of pellets offered if any or in her water intake. In theory if she is eating well, and you increase the amount of fibre she eats , i.e. more hay offered the size of pellets should become larger and not so hard.. also monitor her weight and urine production. If not sure, best to have her checked over just in case she has any problems creeping up that are not very clear at the moment.. rabbits are not very good at showing symptoms !

It sounds like Twitch might be a little shocked over his environmental change. If he was used to having free range over things like the bed and is now prohibited, this can be somewhat stressful. As long as he is eating a sufficient amount of food an continuing to poop close to his normal amount, I would not really start thinking he is truly ill just yet.
