My cat's eye is squinting and looks painful. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

Feral cat had her kittens outside my porch in sept. We brought them inside the porch because it was getting cold and adopted all the kittens out. Brought mama cat inside in November (I have three other cats). After we brought her in she started squinting her one eye but just in the last two weeks it has turned into the attached picture. I thought maybe one of her kittens scratched her but now I'm not sure what it could be. She's otherwise eating and using litter box

This is a form of uveitis. It could be due to infection, or a tumor in the eye. This is a painful condition that can get much worse if not treated appropriately, so I recommend taking her to a vet in the next 24 hours for treatment. You may consider taking her to the shelter, which are normally staffed by veterinarians. I hope that helps and Maggie gets better soon.
