Will old cat scent stress new kittens? How should I clean?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat of 17 years passed away a few months back. I am going to adopt 2 new kittens. I don't want to stress the newbies by having his scent scare them. How long do cat scent markers last and how should I clean to ensure as few markers are left as possible?

It is very considerate of you to think about that for the new cats that you are adopting. Your old cats scent will not bother the new kittens at all. In general, routine cleaning with appropriate household cleaners is all that is needed for your new cats.
