My cat has a soft, painful lump on his ear. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 10 years and 7 months old | 16 lbs

I found a dime size soft lump near the middle of my 10 yr old cats ear. He is kind of putting that ear back and seems to pull away very slightly when i touch it. He hasnt been injured that i know of. Hes an indoor cat. Do i need to take him to the vet or should i give it a few days?

It's best to have a vet check it out, because they can quickly determine the cause and ensure he gets the appropriate treatment. If the swelling occurred suddenly, then it's most likely to be from trauma, or infection. If it occurred more gradually (over two weeks or so), then it's more likely to be a cyst or tumor. I hope that helps and Jake gets better soon.
