My dog isn't eating, is lethargic, and has pale gums. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 8.1 lbs

I'm looking for suggestions on what might be wrong with my dog. Didn't eat and was lethargic for two days. xray showed a partial small intestine blockage. kept at vet for three days for iv fluids and meds. they said it didn't look like anything was blocking her gi track anymore. finally had a BM after five days without one, was loose, yellow, and a foul odor. she's still not eating, vet has her again for fluids and cortisol test. she isn't eating after 6 days. has pale gums too. please help.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I am sorry to hear that Roxy is not feeling well. At this point in time, I would recommend having an abdominal ultrasound performed to see if there is an explanation in the abdomen that could be causing the decreased appetite. If she continues to worsen then an exploratory surgery may be warranted by your veterinarian. Also, if blood testing has not been done yet, I would recommend having this done to rule out any systemic changes that could be causing the symptoms. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.
