Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 1 month old | 14.6 lbs

12 mo. old dachshund/beagle/corgi mix diagnosed with very low platelets - cause unknown. 14.6 lbs. On prednisone & doxycycline for 7 days. Platelets doubled! Now, diarrhea for 36 hours, vomiting for 12 hours (5 times). Pink gums! Drinking water, no loss of appetite- vomits within 2 hours after food. Tried plain boiled chicken for last two meals (2 tbsp each meal) - no luck. High fatigue. I withheld doxycycline this AM, administered prednisone with first meal. Not enough money for weekend vet! :(

Poor Layla! Her vomiting may be caused by the antibiotics, which can cause nausea and in rare cases, constriction of the esophagus. Steroids (prednisone) can cause stomach ulcers and kidney issues in high, chronic doses. Unfortunately, the vomiting and lethargy can be caused by a number of other conditions, which can just be a coincidence, so I recommend having Layla seen as soon as possible to rule out things like intestinal obstructions or torsion.
